Excitement builds ahead of ABC Motsepe League Play Offs in CT

31 May 2019 – This year’s much anticipated ABC Motsepe League play offs will be taking place next week from the 4-9 June in Cape Town. The playoffs will see the winners from each province going head to head in what promises to be an exciting and emotional week of football.

All teams will be making their way to the Mother-City with the aim of not only representing their clubs and provinces, but they’ll also carry the dreams and aspirations of their communities as they battle it out on the field for a spot in next seasons National First Division.

The winner of the tournament will not only get promoted into the NFD and go a step closer to the much beloved PSL, but will also walk away with a staggering R 1 million rand prize cheque with the runners up taking home R500 000.

The teams which have been placed in three groups insisting of three teams, will play two games each during the group stage with the top three teams progressing to the semi-finals where they’ll be joined by the best team that finishes second.

The group stage as well as the semi-finals will both be played at Erica Park with the final being played at the Athlone Stadium on 9 June, kick off at 15:00.

The ABC Motsepe league does only give an opportunity for amateur teams to dream of playing professional football, but it plays a pivotal role in the development of football in our country.

Who can ever forget when Maluti FET, a small unknown team from this very league went on to knockout the mighty Orlando Pirates 4-1 during the Nedbank Cup competition during the 2012-2013 season? This does not only show you the level of talent the teams in this league portray, but the amount of hunger they have.

The previous winners of this competition include PSL outfits such as Chippa United as well as the “Lions of the North “affectionately known as Highlands Park who finished in an impressive 7th position in the PSL.

Supporters are encouraged to come and witness exciting, passionate and raw football talent, which will be showcasing their skills and keeping the dream of joining the professional ranks of South African football alive.
